A Weekend in Tagaytay

current music: Slowdive - Shine [splendiferous mix] 4.02 MB

A few weeks ago, because of the stress and pressure we all have on a deadline of a project, my colleagues suddenly felt the urge to go to Tagaytay. That was on the day I wasn’t required to show up on Saturday night overtime, because I was pulled out to ‘test’ a more difficult project.

I woke up from an sms of a colleague saying “wake up and get up! We are going to Tagaytay. NOW As in after shift. Get here ASAP.”

Is this some kind of a joke, at 3:00 am? I don’t think so. Then I rushed to open my pc. First, I was almost irritated that I wasted 3 hours sleeping instead of going online to speak with My Moogie *.* But then again, he knows (and always remind me, thanks!) to have my well deserved rest.

But as soon as I got online PING! PING! PRIINGG! Messages from work popped. And also from My Moogie. Ok, one at a time! So I said Hi to him first…

I had second thoughts on going to Tagaytay. But they rely on me since it seemed I am the only one who has been there recently, and knows what to ride and where to go. And Moogie is about to sleep too (check time zones, hehe..) So I promised to take pictures for him and he let me go with them.

I am anticipating the feeling of being in Tagaytay too. I’ve been there many times with my family, but the last time I was there was so meaningful that I know Tagaytay will never be the same for me. There will always be that feeling of being with him. And seeing the sights makes me miss him more at the same time, no, because I felt he was just there.

And so I went.

Funny tho, that when I arrived at work, it was only 5 of us who will go. Fine with me, but I learned that a few more backed-out the last minute. Those who do not want to risk going on a rainy Manila Sunday morning, not knowing exactly where to go and what to ride.

When we got there, all the risk was worth it. The two hour bus trip lead us up the mountains with no rain. And the cloudy atmosphere made it perfect for a long walk looking over the lake and volcano. The temp was colder than the usual, and our jackets (that we usually only wear at work) were well suited.

And yes, I was right. It was an amazing sight and feeling. I was so proud of bringing Him *.* there with me last July. I showed my friends where we took pictures and ate at the same restaurant.

I highly recommend Leslie’s in Tagaytay. It’s just beside Starbucks. It’s a landmark so it wont be missed.

After brunch (breakfast + lunch) at Leslie’s, we went to Dencio’s for a few drinks. We stayed at the upper floor that has an equally amazing view. Overlooking the lake and Taal volcano, we even saw a mysterious rain that circled the lake. It was divided in two, then after a few hours, passed over our location and stayed only for a few minutes and went back to shower the lake.

Weekend in Tagaytay. Pfew! What a way to unwind.

Tho next time, I wanna have that coffee at Starbucks too. lol

Poem for Syd

Filed under: poetry, switched on - velvet @ 1:33 am

Soaring with Syd Barrett . . .

A ring.
shivering
non-silence.
Waterfalls
drowning
floating
stones
fishes
bubbles
air
breeze
mist
clouds
raindrops
storm
tornadoes
flying
screaming
beauty
rainbows
fireflies
leaves
fields
wind
circling
hair
falling
soft sheets
crawling
lying
coughing
smoke
fog
taste.
Linger.
Disconnect.

one of those days…

Filed under: switched on, dailies, insomniac, wring! - velvet @ 5:10 am

current music: Cranes - Far Away [Live] 3.6 MB

A bad start? yeah…

Funny how my day starts. It begins at 19.00 and ends at 9 am the next day. Yeah I mostly wake up in between to eat lunch (like now) and go back to bed and wake up at 19.00, take a shower, sometimes eat dindin (if i woke up at exactly 19.00 and not in a rush) then go to work.

But before leaving i see to it i see my inspiration.. my strength*.*

Too bad i woke up late today, rush to go to work without eating dindin then woah! spent all 8 hours listening to busy lines, disconnected lines and chinese and non-english speaking repondents. And so the dreaded ONE in a day came to life.

Yep, i got ONLY ONE complete call today! oh what a friday!

Then i came home and there is no electricity. And when i got my mobile to send an sms.. my balance was not enough to send an overseas sms! ohhh horrible! and how will i sleep? it’s too hot and too bright! Mr. Sun decided to hang onto my window today! of all the days!

Sometimes i wish to be like that girl in the painting above. Sit on the edge and look up.. no worries, nothing to fear.. think blankly and dream.. Ohh.. but is she sitting on a cliff? tssk.. forgot.. i’m afraid of heights! oh my…

Well now i have to go back to sleep. dont wanna wake up past 19.00 again! WISH WISH WISH me Luck tomorrow! Oh, i mean “tonight”!

“Not everyday is a holiday!”

Filed under: switched on, dailies, insomniac, wring! - velvet @ 1:33 am

current music: Billie Holiday - Solitude 2.91 MB

Well, ok i am not sour graping here (as per the title)..

First.. mmm.. what a way to relax… play my Billie Holiday album.. lying on the bed, mmm light one incense with the flavor called “passion”… and think of nothing.. and have my peace *.*

Well ok, before my mind goes totally blank as i drift into dreamland… let me take note of what happened today.

Not everyday is a Holiday.. as one of the Veteran Callers said today. If some of us (ehem probably talking about me) got many previous days , doesnt mean we get plenty everyday.

Ok so that made me panic a bit lol.. it’s 3.30 am and i only have one complete call! oh my… dont wanna have a total of only ONE today! ..or make it any day! hehe.. but yeah just when i was about to fall asleep dialing and hearing Voice Mail Boxes and disconnected lines… woah! i managed to convince 3 others to finish a call… so yeah.. last hour i got 3 more! So hmm.. 4 is not bad.. not bad at all..

But hee.. ok i also have bloopers today… well started yesterday actually. I said “sige” two times! (sige is a tagalog expression like saying “ok”) haaaaaaa!!! And once i said “ano” (ano is translated as “what”) double HA! Good thing, it blended within my english. Think its not that obvious. lol. Only that if they listen to my recorded call.. tsssk!!!

Anyway, today… instead of saying “artificial” i said “artificianer” oh my!!! HA! Now that’s a new word! lol…

Here’s a cute conversation today…

receptionist: “Hi. this is blah blah Hard Rock blah blah. How can I rock your world?”

caller: “Hi, may I speak with your blah blah Manager, please.”

receptionist: “Who is this?”

caller: “My name is blah blah. I’m calling from XYZ Company.”

receptionist: blag! (she dropped the phone)

ok.. i should have said … “Yes, you will rock my world if you pass the phone to the blah blah manager! Or else I hit you with a guitar!” HA!

And here’s another one:

manager: “Are you from India?”

caller: “No, actually I am calling from XYZ Company in blah blah State.”

manager: “Sorry, not interested.” blag!

Oh, yeah.. remind me to say “yes” next time. I think he likes exotic girls! haaaa!

ok too much lack of sleep.. i better dive in now… byeee all… see yah tomorrow!

John Lennon Tribute

Filed under: switched on, eye candies - velvet @ 12:50 am

Current Music: John Lennon - Imagine

forgot to do this last thursday… and my only spare time was this weekend…

Marking the 25th Death Anniversary of John Lennon, i placed my framed charcoal poster outside my room, and played all my Beatles records, including the post-Beatles ones. My feeling- DJ weekend started off with the cd “Lennon Legendgrab a copy” followed by my 4-Disc Lennon Anthology Box Settake a peek… and the first song off the player, is the most striking and precious song (for me) that John Lennon created..

So, click the song title above and get that free download before it expires…

Imagine - John Lennon

Imagine there’s no Heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

Now, after a spin of the dizzy past week, recalling the words of John Lennon himself.. helped me remember.. there is more to life.. than what i only see with my eyes..

So.. peace and love and live the best you can!

Starfish

Filed under: switched on, switched off, darklands - velvet @ 12:14 am

Antony and the Johnsons - Cripple and the Starfish

Mr. Muscle forcing bursting
Stingy thingy into little me, me, me
But just “ripple” said the cripple
As my jaw dropped to the ground
Smile smile

It’s true I always wanted love to be
Hurtful
And it’s true I always wanted love to be
Filled with pain
And bruises

Yes, so Cripple-Pig was happy
Screamed ” I just compeletely love you!
And there’s no rhyme or reason
I’m changing like the seasons
Watch! I’ll even cut off my finger
It will grow back like a Starfish!
It will grow back like a Starfish!
It will grow back like a Starfish!”

Mr. Muscle, gazing boredly
And he checking time did punch me
And I sighed and bleeded like a windfall
Happy bleedy, happy bruisy

I am very happy
So please hit me
I am very happy
So please hurt me

I am very happy
So please hit me
I am very very happy
So come on hurt me

I’ll grow back like a Starfish
I’ll grow back like a Starfish
I’ll grow back like a Starfish
Like a Starfish..

…I just like to share this song.

drop notes: Don’t get fooled by the Artist’s name. This beautifully crafted dark sarcasm overshadows the criticism of those unfamiliar with the avante garde. Reading the lyrics blankly, without listening, would make one wonder what it really meant. This song shows a poignant yearning for healing and redemption, combined with the bittersweet words and striking lines that are strangely unfamiliar for a song.

With a voice like this, imbued with the transcendental emotion of the blues, yet deployed with an unadorned simplicity reminiscent of medieval music practice, and graced with a top note of desperate wonder. One would defenitely see how this song and his others captivates me. Those who know me or read along the same lines as mine.. would agree how deeply this song would strike one’s hidden emotions..

some facts: With backgrounds of being personally asked by Lou Reed, of the Velvet Underground, to make a rendition of “Perfect Day” for his album The Raven, (another one of my faves) and gave a solo turn of “Candy Says” live. Antony even created the melody to one of Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, The Lake. And created boggling songs like “Hitler in My Heart” with such lines as “Don’t punish me/For wanting your love inside of me/And I find Hitler in my heart/From the corpses flowers grow…”.

All in all makes him one of a kind, combining these influences with his being, yes, having androgynous features.

The Velvet Shadow Box

Filed under: switched on, switched off, darklands - velvet @ 9:20 pm

Current Music: Edward Ka-Spel - “The Shadow Box

“What Edward Ka-Spel is and does shall forever remain shrouded in mystery. On the surface, Ka-Spel is the lead singer and guiding light behind the Holland-based arcane “pop” combo LEGENDARY PINK DOTS; he also played and lyricized with Skinny Puppy’s cEvin Key under the name TEAR GARDEN.

Beyond that, however, normal words fail to describe this mans’s peculiar charm. Usually inspired by his dreams, this enormously prolific (more than 30 solo releases, and more than 50 with the Dots) artist’s uncanny lyrical content — often disturbing, thus deeply emotional — is coupled with music that also feels like the direct outpouring of a very dark, fantastic dream; it’s Hieronymus Bosch for the ears — an ambiguously eloquent beast who curls up in your consciousness and refuses to leave — and simply not pop or rock or folk or electronic or anything else that easily comes to mind. Ka-Spel has also had a selection of his lyrics, stories, and fragments published in a gorgeous hardcover book, LOVE AND LOUD COLOURS, which includes a cd-single of chillingly beautiful new obsessions, madnesses, and fantasies.”

—John Payne, LA WEEKLY

note: Just tired. too tired to post any review for now. Just listening to my fragmented album downloads of Edward Ka-Spel. ..enchantingly beautiful.. hypnotically dark.. captivatingly demented.

yeah, why so gloom? Because 15 days from now is the anniversary of my second life. And By the end of this month, is indeed a count of another year. Another year away from my mom’s departure from this material cruel world. And how ironic that indeed, every December is always a new beginning… hidden in a tragedie.

btw, whoever found a link to the lyrics of the song i share for free download, pls inform me. thanks. a book copy would be nice too.. hehe see.. i still have some % cheeriness.. hmm…

Bon de’barras!

Filed under: switched on, dailies, rants, switched off - velvet @ 10:25 pm

Current Music: Blueboy - Imipramine

Yeah i have lots of posts queued to be finished. But let me insert this posty of what happened today. (well ok, note that, this entry was supposed to be posted last Nov.30)

But first, the Music stuff: Unisex is the best album of Blueboy. Well, together with If Wishes were Horses. And they are among my list of fave fave band of all time! Tho, I havent admitted til now that Blueboy’s male vocalist is gay. MY siblings always tease me of listening to Brit Gay Pop.. and i always laugh at them some people just dont know what real music should sound like.. LOL.. its called indie, ok! but hey! what do they care? and in fairness.. i do not really care if he is. I also found out that the song “Self-Portrait” is alleged to be about Brett Anderson of Suede (*ehum) –”I, this nation’s narcissist laureate” is found within the song. Hmm.. maybe upload it tomorrow. coz today, i prefer listening to the frantic rush of “Imipramine” as it starts out “You say love can break a boy’s heart/ I say there’s no such thing.” Yeah.. just utterly perfect for today.

Why? you ask?

Coz J called today.. asking for me to take him back but then, passed the phone over to his new girlfriend. blah! so i told her iha.. you dont know anything. just go back to sleep. Coz boy, she they both sounded like they need to gargle and brush their teeths! peeyew!

For all they know i would file a case of adultery! bwahaha… if only i had a tape recorder…

But then again, lookie here, he was actually asking if he could just work things out. He would fix things. Well i told him, ok, do that. fix yourself and go away! and never show even any sign of your shadow to me! Imagine, him saying that while living in the house of the new gf and pff! is presently in the same room! (i can hear her saying something.. lol.. probably “put down the phone”?) haa…

well the thing is, i am presently satisfied with my situation, thank you.. and anything connected to him spells d-o-o-m and d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r! and excuse me, i had enough of being the punching bag for seven years. and i could only thank god my limbs are still complete.

Pff! so here’s one for him screw you! and good riddance! bon de’barras!.. Now let me just go back to where im at…

..pessimistic angel pessimistic angel pessimistic angel
grey stone circles in the grey rain
gallons of lillies white lillies white
i might loose my way and stumble fall into shallowness
shallowness pessimistic angel pessimistic angel

…out beyond the blue horizon where dreams
caress the night caress the night pessimistic angel

…but you can’t touch me this is my only life
freaking out on katie’s bathroom red tablets
screwing you screwing you - up! pessimistic angel
pessimistic angel

…imipramine you know what I mean the drug
that I need the drug that you need…

what did just happen!?!!?

Filed under: switched on, dailies, frenchie - velvet @ 11:11 pm

Current Music: Stereolab - les bons bons des raisons

Vous vous presentar s’il vu plaît?

..well dunno if that made sense at all! haha! It was my answer to the part where we write a sentence in french:

Ask your friend to introduce the person with her

Took the French test last saturday.. and i was like this the whole time or more than half the time -> and the rest of the time, like this -> with about a couple or two dull moments staring into empty space, pretending to think, like this ->

Although, i have some Positive points too. Here are some easy examples:

Repondez aux questions (15 items)
└> Comment vous appeles-vous?
└> Quelle est votre profession?

= Je m’appelle Velvet Velvetzki
(erm, real name withheld. lol)
= Je suis concepteur indépendant de site web (HA! Yeah right..)

  Negation (10 items)
└> Vous êtes avocat
└> Elle aime le chocolat
= Vous n’tes pas avocat
= Elle n’aime pas le chocolat

The hard parts are (1) fill in the blanks of people engaged in conversations, (2) write the french question that fits, And (3) construct a pharagraph about a person based on the basic details given.

HA! After the test, the gal beside me told me if she made a re-take with the same questions, she doubts if she’ll be able to answer them still. lol.. well i agree that it is indeed not what we all expected. And our prof didnt really concentrate on talking about sentence construction (which she should have, since the test were mostly of that). If i get a “take2″ well, im pretty sure i am not alone. lol.

But hey, fairly worthwhile to learn a bit. At least if i go to some french sites now, i can get what they meant, but not really translate in full tho. Well, what do you expect with mere 40 hours training?

And yeah, as far as i know, its not the test that counts but the process of learning. Fail or not.. it was all fun.

And sheesh.. have no choice now but wait for the results.. Wish me luck!

note: photo above i took just after the test. well, did some picassa editing there. hehe.. but the original pic is at my flickr. (please see sidebar)

About the song.. gonna upload it in a while. maybe after midnight here (when the free hours start. uploads take too long) And dont worry, song is not all french. Stereolab is such a great band… mmm.. right, Moogie? Please visit their Official Website.
