Breaking a World Record: Longest Painting

Filed under: news, pinoy, art - velvet @ 9:06 am
1998 - Hai Shuet Yeung single-handedly painted the world’s longest painting, measuring 201.5 metres long and 1.5 metres wide. Painted on a single unbroken roll of water-colour paper between 3rd March and 6th November 1998. It depicts 5,339 carps.

Her site claimed to be the only place where you can see it in one full image, with zoom details. I think my browser needed plug ins for it to show. Maybe you could see it. Visit Yeung’s artstudio.

Nov, 2004 - About a dozen Chinese painters have began working on a 206-meter-long oil painting. The painting portrays a historical period of 206 years, depicting the entire history of the Mongolian people. Read details here.

Note that, it’s only 4.5 metres in difference. hmmm… I am not sure if they have finished it. Now for the latest…

March, 2005 - A painting which measured 2,978.4 m (nearly 3-km) was created by over 3,000 students from various educational establishments in the United Arab Emirates.

But, who’s up for a challange?

Well if you live in/near Quezon City, or willing to fly from anywhere across the globe (ehem), have the passion for painting.. (being a pro is not a requirement ok) and want to have your names immortalized together with other fellow artists..

something to be proud of

“No one ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him; it is the amount and exellence of what is over and above the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction” - Charles Kendall Adams

Last Friday was Irvine’s graduation. Last Friday was Irvine’s graduation. He was awarded “Most Articulate” in class. wow, especially for his age! Yeah.. and a proud mom I am indeed!

That night I wasn’t able to go to work for lack of sleep and my aching tummy hehe.. (really?) Anyway, it was also our monthly “party” too. (See previous post for reference)

Saturday morning. I got an sms from a colleague asking me why I went crazy to not attend last night’s party, adding that I have a “mandatory blow-out” hmm.. Laughing, I sms back asking why. She claims I have an award with an incentive. I didn’t take it seriously, coz I thought it was just a joke.
Saturday evening. No over-time! Woeha!

Monday night, back to work. I was welcomed with smiles and a number of pats on the back for a job well done. So the rumor was true. My Team Leader called me, excited and rushing (coz we have deadlines too - lol) she discreetly handed my my certificate and my “incentive”. She shook my hand and congratulated me, adding how proud she was. I looked at the certificate… my name in big bold letters and… the words…
Most Promising Employee

Up until our break times, colleagues from other projects tease me for a blow-out! haaa.. and no need for speeches. I am still at awe.
Well, what can I say? Passion and hard work pays. Not only in the monetary sense, but also the feeling of fulfillment. Remembering the words of someone dear to me *.* … now I must agree.. I should never underestimate myself. Thanks, sweetie! This one’s for you…

working overtime doesn’t have to be terrible

Filed under: eye candies, insomniac, wring! - velvet @ 8:47 pm

Yep! your eyes are not tricking you..
what you see on the pic is what it seems!
And yep, this is the Valentine decoration the staff at where i work thought of.
Told yah they were wacky!

Yeah, sure, you may click the pic for a better view. sorry tho its not as big as i planned. but you can see it clearly enough to distinguish that the bubbly thingies hanging on our ceiling are not balloons! (wondering tho who blew all those, countung that we have more than 1 floor full of these) and yep those are little cupids with hearts too…

cute huh? the cupids? nhe not that…

Anyway, weeks ago i mentioned we were having that party at work. well half the day we made calls still, but half was eating and playing around. haha.. just like kids we had games. but hmm.. interesting games (for a known Catholic country, that is!)

Details? hmm it wasnt a big deal, but it was funny to watch (read: i was not among the ones who played) they had the “blow the biggest erm…” see.. i can’t even say it! haaa! the game title was “Blow my Thing” (as in that thing hanging from por ceilings.. imagine one falling on your head while making a call!) and haaa.. the winner was a man! tssk.. ok… moving on..

Another game was named “Eat my Banana”. The concept of the game was the guys will hold the banana and the girls will eat it. the first one to finish will be the winning pair, and to add a little twist, they are both blindfolded.

Someone said they used to have a game titled “Grab my Eggplant” it’s like a version of “Trip to Jerusalem”, FYI for those who do not know. In this game, chairs are placed in a circular formation facing outwards, and players will dance / walk around the chairs while the music plays. and when the music stops, they sit. and the players should always have an excess of one, like 5 chairs, 6 players, the one who ends up with no chair wil be out of the game and another chair will be removed for the next level. this goes on until there are 2 players, one chair left.. you get the idea…

But in the game they had, the men act as the chair. but instead of the girls grabbing a seat when the music stops, they will grab the eggplant hanging by the waist of the men! haaa! last pair standing will be the winner.

And the winner for Mr. Hearthrob is … (no drumrolls here) Gay, Miss Hearthrob is (hmm.. not among my list of colleagues) but she is pretty, in fairness. But i still voted for our pretty team leader, Fake. hehe.. nobody said you cant vote from the same sex!

And of course there is the traditional awarding of “Best Caller”, “Complete Attendance” and announcements of newly promoted staff etc.. and birthday celebrants had a share of their candle blowing too..

ok.. just noting this down so that someday i can look back on all these and laugh…

And yeah.. i am just suffering further from insomnia (during the day - which was suppose to be my ‘night time’) because i only had 2 complete calls this overtime! tsssk.. oh my.. what can i do? During weekends people are mostly not staying in one place all day! except for us..

as our Team Leader announced before the start of the shift..

“Isn’t it Great? We are all here on a Saturday night! Such Pathetic Social Lives…”

haaaaaaaaa…. yeah yeah

note: sorry wrote this about 2 saturdays ago, just wasnt able to post it

“another day, another adventure”

Filed under: dailies, insomniac, wring! - velvet @ 6:00 am

OMG! is it really almost a month!? of not posting!!!

Well i have the funny feeling that i need to apologize… tssk ive been getting mails actually of people asking how i was. hmm.. ok only 2.. eh, just browse over to my main blog, twisted thoughts… , where i post mostly every friday (or so) for my weekly entry at Illustration Friday.

i have countless posty drafts in my head but strangely have no time to pen it all down. what more - type it all and post it.

so hmm.. reviewing the thoughts in my head and the previous weeks that went berserk…

Firstly, i wanna say that I havent slept yet since i got home. but who can blame me.. my mind is not sleepy! and my Vodka Blueberry in the freezer have been calling my name since i got home but my legs are the ones who are too sleepy to go and get it.

Btw, reason for my absence in the blogspace is because of my job. Yes, for those who have been reading.. I have a daily graveyard shift that caters indeed to my insomnia.. but not to my social life! haaaa…

For two weeks now, we are asked (ok, not really forced, but since im new, they expect me) to work an extended 2 hours a day, and additional 8 hours in the weekend. Completing all that for an amount worth it, but thinking of one’s health.. ok (my heart *.* tells me i should be careful), im having second thoughts now if i can last here for years! haaa… see told you ask me six months if i would say the same thing. or even.. ’stay sane’ LOL

But hmm my daily motivational phrase.. another day, another adventure.. who knows who i chance upon while calling? Maybe a blogger who i regularly or once upon a time visited might be the person on the other line? What if? hmm …

One of my collegues have spoken with someone asking if she have a MySpace account (haaa!), another one have spoken with a writer who wrote these novels that became a movie.. and lots have spoken with other Pinoys working abroad (asking them to speak in our native tongue). One even saw the name of her former schoolmate among the list to call.. and here I am being asked if i can Fax over a cheque. haha!
…but that’s impossible, Mr. blah blah
“why?”
Because the bank will not validate it coz they need a real cheque
“oh?”

tsssk… ok want to hear more bloopers? and funny respondents?

I have a list of favorite respondents.. who always never fail to pop up once in a day. Like the people who answer like these:

Caller: “Am I calling the office of blah blah?”
Respondent: “You is.” (oh, yes I is indeed!)

Caller: “What time can I call back?”
Respondent no.1: “Call after one hours(oh, good. thanks for not having second thoughts about the time)
Respondent no.2: “I doesn’t know” (yeah, I doesn’t either!)
Respondent no.3: “Next time when she is here” blag (oh, great! i sure know when!)
Respondent no.4: “Oh God, I don’t have time to talk about product XYZs. Call me at 10 o’clock, okay?” (ok, sure! see.. you have the time! and God is my witness!)

And the split personality break out:

Scene 1
Caller: “May I speak with the blah blah Manager? I believe his/her name is blah blah?”
Respondent no.1: “Michelle is not here. She’s gonna be back on Sunday.”
Caller: “Oh, on Sunday. Ok, may I speak with her assistant instead?”
Respondent no.1: “You can talk to me”
Caller: “Great. May I know your name please?”
Respondent no.1: “Michelle” (erm!)
Caller: (pauses) “Michelle?”
Respondent no.1: “Oh, it’s a different Michelle” (yeah yeah. stop convincing me.)

Scene 2
(same question)
Respondent no.2: “Alejandro? (pauses, probably looks around) He is not here.”
Caller: “Ok, may I speak with his assistant instead?”
Respondent no.2: “The owner is here.”
Caller: “Oh, that’s even better! May I speak with him then?”
Respondent no.2: “He is busy. Can you call back after 30 minutes?”
Caller: “Oh sure! And may I know his name, please?”
Respondent no.2: “Alejandro”
Caller: “Alejandro, the owner’s name is Alejandro?” (not again!)
Respondent no.2: (pauses) “Eh, it’s a different Alejandro” (and i bet she’s thinking im stupid. what a nice combination…Manager and Owner with the same name)

Scene 3
(same question)
Respondent: “Oh yeah, just a second. I go find him” blag! toot-toot-toot (no thanks, i think i found him!)

Scene 4
(same question)
Respondent: “She is not here.”
Caller: “Oh, so when can I call back for the manager?”
Respondent: “Call me on Monday at 3.” (oh, sure.. i think i found another missing manager!)

Scene 5
(same question)
Respondent: “Manager not interesting.” (oh he’s not? ahh.. you mean he is not interested..)

Scene 6
(same question)
Respondent: “Sorry. Sorry. I’m not interesting.” blag! (yeah, i know!)

Scene 7
(same question)
Respondent: “This is Pedro. But I am not the manager.”
Caller: “Oh, I’m sorry about that. May I know the name of the Manager then?”
Respondent: “Pedro.”
Caller: (pauses) (i think i have enough of this!)
Respondent: “We have five Pedros here” (oh Great! This is just great!)

last note: oh what a beautiful and adventurous world we have indeed…

now im off to bed.
zzzzzz…
