Kong hei fat choi!

Filed under: news - velvet @ 7:04 pm

Trivia time… Since it’s the start of the Chinese New Year, commonly known in the West as the Lunar New Year.. I’d like to share some facts about the Dragon we always see at the streets during these times..

Legend of the Yellow Emperor

Some scholars report the first emperor of China Huang Di (Yellow Emperor) used a snake for his coat of arms. Every time he conquered another tribe, he incorporated his defeated enemy’s emblem into his own. Huang Di was immortalized into a dragon that looks like his emblem.

That explains why the Chinese dragon has a body of a snake; the scales and tail of a fish; the antlers of a deer; the face of a qilin (a deer-like mythical creature with fire all over its body); and two pairs of talons of eagles; and the eyes of a tiger-lion.

They fly in the sky among the clouds. Almost all pictures of Chinese dragons show them playing with a flaming pearl. Supposedly it is the pearl that gives them their power and allows them to ascend to heaven. Chinese dragons are occasionally depicted with bat-like wings grown out of the front limbs, but most do not have wings.

Chinese dragons are strongly associated with water in popular belief. They are believed to be the rulers of moving bodies of water, such as waterfalls, rivers, or seas. They can show themselves as water spouts

Also, since the Chinese consider Huang Di as their ancestor, they sometimes refer to themselves as “the descendants of the dragons”.

So to our Chinese friends and Pinoy friends having Chinese friends.. (lol)…

Kong Hei Fat Choi!
Happy New Year!

A Good advice always comes from the experienced. Well, ok, most of the time..

So, my long-time bookmarked blog, Call Center Purgatory comes handy now. Aside from tips on job etiquette and patience.. yah, thats what most people need, this blog also shares a laugh about that sinister job which is being in a call center.

But hmm.. as for me, still a trainee, i observed one should get noticed or recognized by the trainers to get their approval. Not “kissing their ass” kinda thing; not being too sipsip.. just a little. ha!!

Well, well.. Welcome to the Corporate Life!

I can say that I love challenges.. but only when i know i can do it! haaaa! ok, thats not a challenge if you know.. but hey technically, it is, coz its a new experience for me.

Why do i think this is the perfect job for me?

> i am an insomniac. 12 midnight til the break of dawn i never yawn. (yeah i know its exaggerated!)
> im hungry for knowledge.
> therefore, i am trainable
> i am patient with irate people. yeah.. very very patient. j is a living proof bwahahahaaaa!
> i call back call back and call back!!! until you say yes! la la-la la luh
> setting wise, ..cold, night time, full of pcs, and lots of coffee! what more could i ask for??
> location wise, i can walk going there! (yeah, and take hours in traveling) lol
> and the people… everybody’s smiling! (hee ok, could be a sinister smile)
> i can be infront of the pc 24/5 (yeah.. i’ve done that) tho, 2 days goes for sleeping and goofing around. lol!!
> and tada.. i have tons of relatives in the US! LOL

ok that last part is not valid. well anyway, hope i pass the final screening on Monday!

tssk.. i admit im just nervous for our recorded mock call today. its my first time and all.. (too bad i wasn’t able to do a “role-play” with mmm *.* for practice..) hihi

Oh and lastly, let me just bade a proper goodbye to my former job.. and hope they get a replacement soon! Merci beaucoup! Au revoir!

Glorious Triumph

Filed under: news, pinoy - velvet @ 2:28 am

ok, I confess..

I’m not into sports, what more into boxing.. I always find it a waste of time. I’d rather read a book..

BUT

When it comes to another International Victory for us Filipinos, adding being in a hotel suite full of 15 relatives watching it, I couldn’t resist but join in the noisy fun. lol..

So blow by blow we watched. Round by round the tension grows.. until finally, ROUND 10, a knockout. And its a TKO.

Yes, Manny “Pacman” Paquiao won the fight against Eric “El Terrible” Morales of Mexico.

It was their second encounter and this time, no cheating (as for the former there were rumors of an obvious scoring bias) Oh well, as my aunties scream.. “Cge! Lumuhod ka ngayon, Morales!” (Yes! Go down on your knees this time, Morales!)

Yeah and as a simultaneous scream.. it felt like the whole building cheered! even the whole country did too!

And if thats not enough for one Glorious Victory, listen.. as news came that Jimrex Raca won on the First Round against the boxing champ of Dominican Republic!

Go Pinoy!

It only shows how us, Filipinos, can withstand the hardest challenge with confidence and determination. We don’t rely on luck.. we make Luck work for us!

pussies in a bag

Filed under: eye candies, dailies, insomniac - velvet @ 1:40 am

Only having a short time to sleep, i woke up hearing the cries of pussy cats.

Apparently, my dad found them abandoned at our backyard. Poor kitties. And no wonder our backyard has that eerie unknown stinch echoing in the air for days now.

Strange how the mother instincts of the cat didnt came first.. leaving her kitties behind. Or maybe, she loved her so that she knew she couldnt take care of them alone so she left them for the humans to look after. And in turn made the ultimate sacrifice…

But, sorry kitties, much that i like to take care of you, with a family member having asthma, you have got to go..

Good thing my neighbor who is studying Medicine volunteered to take them in.
I just wish he wont experiment on them, or much worse…

sell to the chinese and turn them into siopao!

eeeeeew!!!

This is a short posty to appologize to those who attempted to post comment/s two days ago. Going to the Dashboard was not even possible. Blogsome was having a server revamp and adding an additional bandwidth took them hours. Even a day!

Well hopefully, now that they are finished with the changes, their claim for a faster connection will be true to all users. As for the visitors here at Dry the Rain, thank you for your continued support and comments are enabled now.. please give us a holler!

another weird thing…

Filed under: unrest, pinoy - velvet @ 12:55 am

i should have added this to my post weirdest habits:

…6. I eat balut.
For people in the Ph tho, they dont find this weird. But the rest of the world does.

Balut is an egg of a duck steamed after being incubated to artificial heat or the actual heat of a mother duck for some days. The way to open it is crack and make a small opening at the wider edge of the egg. When opening it, the first thing to do is sip the soup. njam! And it goes best with salt. After, you gradually remove/ peel off the egg shell while exposing the chick inside for the bite!

Balut is believed to have aphrodisiac effects. It is a saying here that if one is weak, balut is the thing to make your bones strong! Indeed, this tale has scientific possibilities for balut is rich in calcium! hehe… move over osteoperosis!

For the weak hearted, there is another kind of balut, a “Penoy”. the insides looked like an ordinary chicken egg when boiled. Both tastes exquisite! And for first timers, i recommend eating it with closed eyes.

Hmm.. wait a minute, duck egg? or was it goose egg?

note: dont worry! there is no reported Bird Flu here!

perfect-partner (untagged)

Filed under: eye candies, unrest - velvet @ 10:43 pm

hehe.. whata controversial title! “perfect partner”…

wasnt blog-hopping for quite some time, blame Illo Friday! hehe.. But as i did a quicky randown to my fave blogs, i saw this posty from Dreaming Neko

erm.. perfection.. is there such thing as a perfect partner? nobody’s perfect but hey, its ok to dream, right? and what if one has found his/her perfect partner? hmm… *.*winks

target of perfect partner: male (erm still having second thoughts on female tho.. hihi)

1. kind - of course this is the first. it’s ok to be morbid sometimes, but cruelty is out of the question.
2. child at heart - funny, quirky (ok, you know what i mean) and gotta love kids! not that i wanna have another kid lol
3. soft spoken - annoying megaphone-ish voices get out! i am not deaf.. (lol..)
4. patient - need someone to slow me down sometimes, and to accept my sometimes slow phase too.
5. open - to new ideas, and open with his thoughts
6. a dreamer - dream with me the unlimited possibilities!
7. green tea! green tea! green tea lover! - erm erm erm…
8. we have to be best friends! - need i say more?

Unofficially untagged, i do not need to get 8 people to do this. hehe but hey, anyone who wasnt tagged with this before is welcome to post their own list. just leave a comment here if you wish to do so.

Saying Goodbye to another chapter

Filed under: eye candies, skywriting - velvet @ 7:50 pm

Music: Eluvium - We Say Goodbye to Ourselves

Running away from j.. i left the city.. the people who knows me, and the things i do everyday. i gave myself the space and time to be all alone.. to think. and not to think.

Opportunity paved its way. And some unavoidable circumstances placed me where i am. and where i’ve been. So what should one do but accept?

It only took about 4 hours to run away from everything. And on the way, what i saw was an opening.. a wider space, a road that seemed to never end. And it was telling me that beyond all the chaos, there is still hope. there is still peace.

It only took 4 days for me to realize where i want to be for a while. where i want to settle is still beyond those neverending roads tho. but where i am heading, i now know.

It only took long walks each day for me to see that there is beauty in this cruel world. and even how much i deem to think that life is unfair, one can make things easier with simplicity. By just removing all the stress, removing all the worries, and let the day be. How come i didnt see that before? How come i didnt believe that before?

And now whats left is not only loneliness, heartaches and me, but neverending possibilities..

And now i am not scared anymore.
